I will share my experience of growing my Twitter account in this article. I started this Journey with the goal of getting 10,000 followers in a year. It’s been a fantastic experience so far, and I’ve learned a lot! I’ve been doing this since January. Last month (May), I committed to building an audience seriously for the first time. January, February, March and April were purely for fun. I did get traction but have not used my full potential.

January 2022 — The Start

January statistic

In January, I had around 60 followers on Twitter. As you can see, the January statistics are not great. I only tried out a little bit here and there and in the end I tweeted only six times, which isn’t much.

With tweets, I mean my Tweets, Comments on other tweets, and sharing other tweets.

As a result, I only got 690 impressions. Let's go the next month.

February 2022 — Play Around

February statistic

In February, I started getting more familiar with Twitter, and I started tweeting more frequently after that. This can be seen in the number of tweets. I have now increased that number to 32 tweets compared to six tweets. This resulted in an increase in the impressions from 690 to 3772, which is a good thing because more people see my content.

March 2022 — First Huge Grow

March statistic

I started a Twitter course in March in which I learned how to grow my follower base on Twitter. That is when I realized that I had to change my strategy. I knew that engaging with tweets from other accounts, especially those that are influential, is very helpful. I decided to try this out. I noticed that there was a massive increase in Tweet impressions when I started engaging with bigger accounts. The most exciting thing here is that I have gained the most impressions and new followers from my comments under these accounts.
Here is an example comment (my first viral tweet) where I have received 43 likes:

April 2022 — No Routine

April statistic

The statistics I obtained in April were a bit lower than in March. What caused this? A missing routine! Now I understand how I can contribute to Twitter by engaging with others, but I didn’t have a routine for this. As a result, I engaged less there, and my tweets decreased from 400 in March to 222 in April. Therefore, I decided to take it seriously at the end of April. I created a routine and bought a tool that helped me schedule my tweets and interact with other people.

May 2022 — Implement a Routine

I set 3 routines I wanted to stick to for the whole month of May.

  1. A tweet a day
  2. 5x engagements to other Tweets every day ➡ gives me the most benefits
  3. 2x comments to other tweet comments every day

Further, I used Tweethunter.io, which helped me plan my tweets a week in advance. As a result, every weekend, I prepare the tweets for the whole week.

In my daily routine, Tweethunter.io helped me find the right people to engage with. Under CRM ➡ Engage (people) ➡ you can create a list of people you want to engage with.

The accounts I want to engage with I divided into two categories: rockstars and small accounts. Rockstar accounts are all these accounts that gave me the most impressions from last month’s comments. Small accounts are accounts I find interesting and want to engage with but haven’t gotten that much of impressions from the past.
Now that I have explained the setup let’s talk numbers. This was my most successful month on Twitter ever, and I would attribute it to my routines.
1. Milestone: Own viral tweet

My first tweet went viral (no comment) and received 58 likes. I was tweeting about what I build. You usually get the best results when you tweet about things you are working on or show results. I noticed this, in particular, this month.

2. Milestone: I reach 200 Follower

I reached a massive milestone of 200 Followers this month. You can see that all numbers are going up, which is the result of my routine, I guess.

Conclusion

Overall, this month was excellent. I met a lot of new people on Twitter and learned a lot. Engaging with other people’s tweets and adding value is the right way to get followers. This is especially true when you have few followers like me. The second most critical part is building something exciting and sharing the process on Twitter. This is always what the platform wants to see and will drive traffic. We will now discuss my plans for June 2022.

June 2022 — Plans

In May, I launched my first Product MVP. So the plan is that I will tweet about my MVP. I will do this with one thread a week and let everyone know what I’m working on. Secondly, I will double the effort of my old routines.

  1. One thread a week about my MVP (Product)
  2. 1 Tweet a Day ➡ no increasing
  3. 10x engagements to other Tweets per Day (2x more)
  4. 4x comments to other tweets engagement per day (2x more)

Thanks for reading, and next month, I will update you on how these new routines worked for me.
